The Historic Takoma Archives support the mission of Historic Takoma to preserve and protect the history of the Takoma community; to educate and inform the public about the history of Takoma Park; to support activities and policies that preserve, protect, enhance, and interpret the physical environment of Takoma Park; and to support broader historical research and understanding. Historic Takoma also acquires various items and objects that help further the mission of education through displays and exhibits. Those items are <em>not<\/em> part of the Historic Takoma Archives and are managed separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historic Takoma\u2019s archives collections are made possible by our volunteers, member support, and funding from the State of Maryland through a grant from the Thomas V. \u201cMike\u201d Miller Jr. History Fund, administered by the Maryland Center for History and Culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#015039\"><strong>The Collections<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em>Archives<\/em> Collection<\/strong> &#8211; These collections encompass other items that are directly related to the history and culture of Takoma Park, Maryland, and Takoma Park, DC, including documents, photographs, maps, multimedia materials, and objects\u00a0 (buttons, banners, ceramics, plaques, clothing, signs, furniture, and other items). These are cataloged in our <a href=\"https:\/\/historictakoma.catalogaccess.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online PastPerfect catalog<\/a>. Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/historictakoma.org\/reading-room-revised\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reading Room<\/a> or make a <a href=\"https:\/\/historictakoma.org\/archives-visit-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research appointment <\/a>to use the catalog. An online version of the catalog will soon be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/historictakoma.org\/archives-reference\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5137\"><em>Reference<\/em> Collection<\/a> <\/strong>consists of published materials such as books, magazines, journals, academic papers, reports, studies, and maps,&nbsp; subject files, and other secondary materials that provide context and explanation of the history and culture of Takoma Park, Maryland, and Takoma Park, DC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#015039\"><strong>Access and Use of the Collections<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Historic Takoma encourages wide access to its collections through reference and finding aids, indexes and other tools, exhibition, reproduction,&nbsp; and publication, including <strong>online access<\/strong> [coming soon!]. All materials are non-circulating. Access may be restricted because of resource limitations, care requirements, confidentiality, or other considerations such as copyright.
